Et'al MDM

Quick Start Guide

Enroll your first device and send your first command in under 5 minutes.

This guide walks you through enrolling your first device and sending a remote command using Et'al MDM.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • An Et'al MDM account (request early access if you don't have one)
  • An Android or iOS device to enroll
  • A Wi-Fi connection for both your computer and the device

Step 1: Access Your Dashboard

After logging in, you'll land on your fleet dashboard. This is your command center for all MDM operations.

The dashboard shows:

  • Device Overview — Total devices, enrollment status breakdown, platform distribution
  • Compliance Status — How many devices are compliant, non-compliant, or pending review
  • Recent Commands — Latest commands sent and their delivery status
  • Quick Actions — Enroll a device, send a command, create a policy

Step 2: Create an Enrollment Profile

Before enrolling a device, you need an enrollment profile that defines how the device connects to your MDM.

  1. Navigate to Enrollment in the sidebar
  2. Click New Profile
  3. Enter a profile name (e.g., "Field Devices - Android")
  4. Select the target platform — Android or iOS
  5. Optionally configure a Wi-Fi payload so the device auto-connects to your network
  6. Click Create Profile

Enrollment profiles can be reused across multiple devices. Create one per platform or per team as needed.

Step 3: Enroll Your First Device

With your enrollment profile ready, generate a QR code and scan it with the target device.

  1. Open the enrollment profile you just created
  2. Click Generate QR Code
  3. On the device:
    • Android — Open the device camera and scan the QR code. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the management profile.
    • iOS — Open the Camera app or use Apple Configurator to scan the QR code. Accept the MDM profile when prompted.
  4. The device appears in your dashboard within 60 seconds

For iOS devices, the user must accept the MDM profile in Settings > General > VPN & Device Management after scanning.

Step 4: Send a Test Command

Now that your device is enrolled, send a test command to verify the connection.

  1. Go to Devices and select the device you just enrolled
  2. Click Actions in the top-right corner
  3. Select Query Device Info
  4. The command is sent via push notification and the device responds with its current status
  5. You'll see the response in the Commands tab — model, OS version, battery level, storage, and more

Step 5: Apply a Policy

Policies define the security and configuration rules for your devices.

  1. Navigate to Policies in the sidebar
  2. Click Create Policy
  3. Give it a name (e.g., "Standard Security")
  4. Configure your desired settings:
    • Passcode — Require a 6-digit PIN
    • Encryption — Require device encryption
    • Camera — Allow or restrict camera access
  5. Assign the policy to a device group or individual device
  6. Click Save and Deploy

The policy is pushed to the device on its next check-in (within 15 minutes by default).
